Senior History classes recently visited Derry City. Both Fifth and Sixth Years had a fantastic yet highly educational time. They toured the Derry City walls and visited the very informative Museum of Free Derry. They were told the story of what happened in the city during the Battle of the Bogside, Internment and Bloody Sunday. The revealing trip truly reinforced the importance of Civil Rights. Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Finn Valley Athletic Club 14th Cross Country fundraiser. The club hosted schools from all over Donegal and beyond.. Athletes from across all year groups competed in the event, however Conditions were unfavourable with heavy rain making for tough running. Emer O’Brien excelled with a bronze in the 2nd year girls 1000m. An excellent effort by all who attended.
On Thursday 21st September LCA 2 students visited Belleek Pottery to research their Craft Design task. They were given a tour of the workshop, where all stages of creating a piece of Belleek pottery were experienced. It was hugely informative and interesting for the students as they begin to create their own ceramic art work in the art room. The 28th Infantry Battalion at Finner Camp will once again take a group of TY students for a week of work experience in February. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain an insight into life in the army, and is of special interest to anyone considering a career in the military. Well done to all the TYs who took part in the auditions for the upcoming musical ‘Back to the 80s’ last week. Many students were anxious about being forced out of their comfort zones and having to read a scene and sing in front of choreographer Miss Murphy, musical director Niamh Currid and director Mr. Beattie. Everyone performed well and the team were very impressed with the range of talent in the year group.
