Four fifth year German students took part in the Goethe Institute German Debate last week, with the motion that “Handys sind unnötig im Unterricht” (mobile phones are not necessary in school lessons).
They face stiff competition from St Patrick’s College, Cavan, one of whose team-mates had spent a few months in Vienna for a few earlier this year to master his German. The opposing team won. However, the two German jurors remarked that itwas a very close defeat, as the CCBS team ticked many of the proverbial boxes to showcase their German talent to the finish – great arguments, excellent pronunciation and eye contact. The jurors gave fair feedback and reassured the German Department that they were sure the team would enjoy a victory in the future.
Well done to Stefan Kolev, Marcin Obala, Patryk Ludaszewski and Chloe Connolly, who excelled themselves in dedication and linguistic prowess. Equally we thank the supporters who travelled with us to Cavan. Their good nature and exemplary good manners did not go unnoticed.
Wir wünschen euch allen Frohe Weihnachten und einen guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr!
