Ms Conlon’s third year Maths class completed a project with the aim of researching how Maths is used in everyday life in the working world. Students were surprised to see how Maths plays a vital role in the everyday work of many local people. Students interviewed local business-people and found out the variety of ways that Maths skills acquired in school can be used later on in life. From unit measurement to the use of ratio and geometry for construction jobs and the use of arithmetic to calculate the cost of VAT and profit margins, students got the opportunity to make clear links between the curriculum and future careers.
Thanks to the local businesses who participated in the interviews with the students.
