Last Thursday we held our annual awards ceremony, considered the highlight of the year by many as the school honours the hard work and commitment of all our students, both in and out of the classroom. This year’s special guest was historian and educationalist Dr. Pauric Travers, who began proceedings reminiscing on his school days in Ballyshannon acting as a go-between during visits to the convent for the boys in the tech, and looking to the future, commenting that many of the jobs our students will get in the future have not yet been invented. The coveted Spirit of Coláiste Cholmcille award was received by Clara Herron. Maura Travers received the Tom Cullen Award for excellence in Irish. Lauren Moore and Francis Barron were awarded trophies as Head Girl and Boy. Tutor awards were given to two students in each class who have had good attendance, a positive attitude to learning, and have been helpful and diligent throughout the year. Academic awards were received by two students per year who excelled in their subjects. The U18 Boys Gaelic team and U20 Girls Gaelic teams received trophies and medals in recognition of their achievements in the All Ireland Semi-Final and the Ulster Final respectively. Athletes, rugby and football players also received trophies, as did the members of the German debate team, the Healthy Eating committee and the Student Council amongst others. Music on the day was performed by Eva Mc Glone Falter on the piano, Stefan Kolev on the guitar, Gabrielle Mearon singing solo, and Francesca Patton. Congratulations to all our winners, and many thanks to the committee and everyone else who helped to make this year’s awards ceremony a memorable occasion for all.
